Fred Quimby

A former motion picture theatre owner and Pathé executive, he organized MGM's short-feature department, which he headed from 1926 until his retirement in 1956. Developed a number of popular cartoon series, including "Tom and Jerry," and received eight Academy Awards for animated films made under his supervision.*

Producer Fred Quimby is best remembered for developing and producing the Tom and Jerry series of cartoons at MGM. Before that he had owned a movie theater and worked as an executive for Pathé. He later worked for MGM and created and headed their short-feature department from 1926 until 1956, when he retired. **
